We are a small, Maine-based business owned and operated by Maine families.
In 2014, Casco Bay Custom Charters was started for 2 simple reasons: First, we wanted to share our enjoyment of the water with others. Second, we wanted to preserve MONHEGAN, our wooden lobster boat, as a piece of Maine maritime history.
We started by offering a few simple sightseeing charters and full day trips. Since then, we’ve expanded our charter offerings to include half-day island excursions, lunch and dinner trips to island restaurants, and even onboard dining experiences with a local chef. We continue to have a lot of fun with everything we do.
We’ve learned that businesses, like people, are at their best when they cooperate and collaborate. We love working with a large number of local partners to provide our guests with the best possible experience. In 2018, we collaborated with Portland Harbor Water Tours to purchase and restore the historic passenger cruiser, MARIE L. Our combined efforts have resulted in the rebirth of a vessel who has been in service in Casco Bay for nearly 70 years!
In fact, we’ve enjoyed working with Portland Harbor Water Tours so much that, in 2019, we formally merged our businesses and now share back office resources, crews, and boats. The result is that we are now a little bit bigger than when we started a handful of years ago, but we are still a small business run by a few local families, and we still strive to set ourselves apart by offering exceptional experiences, whether it’s on a 2-hour sightseeing charter for 2, a wedding cruise for 30, or a half-day adventure around the bay for a family.
